Nothing here is staged and nothing was re-shot. Cheryl answered a handful of questions about Mark, and this is what came back.

    When they heard it

Someone in your life has a story like this one.

You already know it. That is the whole qualification — you answer the questions, and our songwriters do the writing.

“But they're impossible to buy for.”

That is usually the point. Someone who already owns everything, or who insists on nothing, cannot be given another thing. But nobody already owns a song about their own life. It cannot be returned, outgrown, or found in a shop, and it can never be recreated for anyone else — it is built from what you alone know about them.

  • “I'm not a writer.”

You don't have to be. Cheryl answered a few questions, the way you would text a friend. Our songwriters turned those answers into the song you just heard.

  • “What if it misses?”

Then you tell us and we make it right. Every song carries a 100% satisfaction guarantee, so the risk of finding out is not yours to carry.

  • “Is it worth it?”

Custom songs typically cost $500 and up. This costs a fraction of that, arrives inside a week, and is theirs for the rest of their life.

[0:02] Hi, my name's Cheryl Hughes. [0:04] I made the song for my husband Mark for his birthday. [0:09] Um, I did have some doubts before I ordered it. [0:12] I wasn't sure I could put enough words down or phrases to make it be truly a special song. [0:22] And, um, I think I decided to go ahead and do it anyway, because it seemed like a really special gift. [0:31] And I just thought, why not? I'll go for it, see what happens. [0:36] Um, now when I heard it the first time, I was really touched. [0:40] I was really touched with how well it was done. [0:44] And when I played it for my husband, he was really touched. [0:48] And he keeps listening to it over and over. [0:52] Um, I think if someone asked me if they should do it, I think I would say yes. [0:56] Just because it's a special gift and it's just something that I am not always good at putting in words. [1:05] But somehow they put it in words and it turned out really good. [1:10] So, yeah, I would say go for it.

The words they heard

[Verse 1] Morning light on a country road, A steady hand to share the load. Some folks talk, but you just do— Faith and family shining through. Ask you how you're getting by, You just grin and say with pride... [Chorus] "Doing better than I deserve," That's the heart in every word. A love that gives and doesn't tire, A quiet strength, a steady fire. Thank the Lord for all you are— Mark, you've been our guiding star. [Verse 2] From Colombia to Mexico, Panama, where the rivers flow, You carried hope to distant lands, Serving others with open hands. Then home again to hold us near, Providing well through every year. [Chorus] "Doing better than I deserve," That's the heart in every word. A love that gives and doesn't tire, A quiet strength, a steady fire. Thank the Lord for all you are— Mark, you've been our guiding star. [Bridge] You cheered from every sideline seat, Made every child feel loved, complete. Integrity in all you've done— A faithful heart, a rising sun. [Verse 3] Now the candles softly glow, And all these years, I want you to know: The devotion in your gentle eyes, The way you love without disguise. Happy birthday, my truest friend— I'd choose you, Mark, time and again. [Chorus] "Doing better than I deserve," That's the heart in every word. A love that gives and doesn't tire, A quiet strength, a steady fire. Thank the Lord for all you are— You've been our guiding star. [Outro] So blessed to call you mine, Through faith and love, one heart, one life.
